A letter from our Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year at Sierra Elementary school! I am excited about another year of working with Sierra Elementary staff, parents, and students. I cannot wait to meet the new Kindergarten students coming in and see all the returning students in 1st , 2nd , 3rd , 4th and 5th .
My name is Melissa Cole, the principal of Sierra Elementary. I have been a part of the Alamogordo Public School District for the past 18 years. I began my career as a special education assistant at MVMS, then moved into kindergarten at Sacramento Elementary. After about 6 years of teaching kindergarten there I moved to Holloman Elementary as a kindergarten teacher. In October of 2015, I was hired as principal of Sierra Elementary. I have always had a desire to be principal and so glad I have that opportunity here at Sierra Elementary with this outstanding staff, students and parents.
I am planning and anticipating a year filled with challenge, learning, and excitement. This year we will continue to push the students with our rigorous and challenging curriculum and commitment for success for all students. I will have an "Open Door" policy so that we may discuss any questions or concerns you may have at any time. I encourage parents to take an active part in their child's learning this year. Parental involvement is essential in the success of all students at Sierra Elementary. It will take every one (parents, students, and Sierra staff) doing their part for all students to reach their full academic potential. I ask for your support in making sure that students come to school every day, on time, and only miss school when it is absolutely necessary. Everyday a student is absent from school is a critical day of learning that does not take place. For your convenience, there is a student/parent handbook on the Alamogordo Public School web site www.alamogordoschools.org that will answer many questions about school policies and procedures.
In conclusion, I want to again express how excited I am to work with the parents, students, and staff of Sierra Elementary. I am looking forward to a GREAT year!
